Finnish Christmas\u00a0dinner is a lively tradition and the easy thing about it is that\u00a0the meals are always the same. However the mix of fish and meat,\u00a0potatoes, beetroot and the different \u201claatikko\u201d makes it difficult\u00a0to match one single wine on everything. I decided (a bit late) to\u00a0provide you with my recommendations.<\/p>\n

First of all, you might be\u00a0interested to know that I tasted all the wine I suggest. Second,\u00a0they all come from Alko general list and you can check their\u00a0availability on Alko internet site. Third, remember that to enjoy\u00a0wine, you need good glasses, good temperature and to pay attention\u00a0not only to the taste but also to the smell.<\/p>\n

I picked 20 wines that would fit the\u00a0Christmas menu. In order you will find one champagne, 9 red wines\u00a0and 10 white wines.<\/p>\n

These wines have indeed very\u00a0different style. However, in their own way, they should perfectly\u00a0fit the purpose. Of course some other possibility exists.<\/p>\n

To match the whole dinner with\u00a0one single wine, aim at the Champagne or a white wine. White will\u00a0fit both fish and meat such as pork and turkey. On the contrary,\u00a0red will be a bit strong for fish. Or pick a red but avoid drinking\u00a0it with the fish.<\/p>\n

For more\u00a0precision, I will write down which wine would even better fit some\u00a0specific meals.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

With graavilohi or kylm\u00e4savulohi :\u00a01, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19<\/p>\n

With savulohi : 1, 11, 12, 14, 17,\u00a020<\/p>\n

With rosolli :\u00a011, 14, 17<\/p>\n

With\u00a0joulukinkku and porkkanalaatikko, lanttulaatikko, maksalaatikko :\u00a02, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 16, 17, 20<\/p>\n

A few extra\u00a0things:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Red Nro 7: has to be opened (you\u00a0just open and leave the bottle like this) 5 hours before the\u00a0dinner.<\/p>\n

White Nro 11\u00a0and 16: will be better if you open them in the morning, then recork\u00a0and put back in the fridge.<\/p>\n

White Nro 14: is far too young (my\u00a0advise is too buy it for next year), you have to open it 48h\u00a0before, then leave it opened 10 min, then recork and put back in\u00a0the fridge.<\/p>\n

As a\u00a0conculsion, I am sure some of you wonder what would I pick if it\u00a0was for me?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

I would serve the fish and rosolli\u00a0separately first and then the meat. I would then pick :<\/p>\n

1- Jacquesson Champagne 734\u00a0which is one of the very best champagne for this price. (Nro\u00a01)<\/p>\n

2- Malat Riesling\u00a0Kellergarten 2008 a very good and elegant wine. (Nro 11)<\/p>\n

3- Caliterra Tributo Pinot\u00a0Noir 2009 which is a surprisingly powerful and yet balanced Pinot
\nNoir, the best I tasted from Chile. (Nro 6)<\/p>\n
