For the century of the Finnish Independance, Alko has selected, like every other Finnish brands, a range of product to celebrate. Onnea Suomelle Italiasta is one of them, in the wine field. This is an organic Primitivo from one of the southernmost region of Italy, Puglia.
The color is of an intense dark red. Faithful to what you would expect from this grape. The nose is very expressive on notes of smokiness, spices and dark ripe fruit. Cherry, black currant. The mouth is round and powerful yet balanced and soft. The fruit is more red than in the nose, with fragrance of strawberries and red currant. The finish is supported by nice soft tannins.
The wine doesn’t need any fuss, just pop up the cork and enjoy. It behaved consistently for several hours. After half a day opening, notes of oakiness like cacao and caramel appeared. Since I enjoy more fruit, I would drink it right after opening, but if you like the oak touch, let it breathe.
This is overall a beautiful Primitivo and a stunning value for money. As usual with wines sourced by Arcus (the importer of the former), the task is perfectly done. Looking for summer in a bottle? Rush for Onnea Suomelle Italiasta!
